Photographing a grizzly in the wild had always been my dream and in the summer of 2000 my dream was realized. I photographed “Swimmer” a 2 1/2 year old grizzly in the Alaskan wilderness. With that one click I had my long awaited photograph and with it a new focus and dedication to my life.
Returning home to Colorado, “Swimmer” became quite a celebrity. It seemed the entire valley wanted his photograph. Grizzly Cove Greetings, LLC was soon born, offering a line of grizzly bear note cards and prints.
I have returned to Alaska each summer and reunited with the grizzlies. The memories of those encounters have been preserved forever by my camera lens. Since then many of my images have been published, several of which were featured in a PBS documentary. “Swimmer”, “Sweet Dreams” and “Family Portrait” have each won awards at various exhibitions.
I dedicate this website to the spirit of “Swimmer” and his grizzly brothers.
